Pine Pollen and Shilajit Together (How Men Run the Stack)

Plenty of men over 40 end up taking pine pollen and shilajit together. One comes from the male cones of a pine tree, the other from rock in the Himalayas, and both have been studied in men for the same reason: testosterone. Run as a pair, they make a simple two-step morning. A dropper of pine pollen tincture under the tongue, then a cup of warm water with shilajit resin stirred through it.

Two very different things from two very different places

Pine pollen is the fine yellow dust that male pine cones release each spring. Every grain carries two small air sacs so it can drift on the wind. Mara's Pine Pollen is made from wild-harvested Pinus radiata pollen with the cell wall cracked open, then extracted as a spagyric tincture. Spagyric means the pollen is extracted first, and the minerals left behind are returned to the liquid, so the whole plant ends up in the bottle. It tastes soft and lightly earthy, with a faint sweetness.

Shilajit is a sticky, pale-brown to blackish-brown resin that seeps out of rock layers in mountain ranges, especially the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush. A 2007 review in Phytotherapy Research (Agarwal and colleagues) describes it as a complex mix of humic substances with plant and microbial compounds, used in traditional medicine as a rejuvenator for thousands of years. It usually comes as a dark resin in a small jar, and it tastes the way it looks: smoky and tar-like.

Chinese herbal texts have recorded pine pollen, 松花粉 (song hua fen), since the Tang dynasty, and it is listed in the 2020 Chinese Pharmacopoeia. In 1971 Šaden-Krehula isolated testosterone, epitestosterone and androstenedione from Scots pine pollen, the first time those hormones were found in a plant. Shilajit has its own long record in Ayurveda. Men who stack the two are pairing a pine with a mountain.

What the studies in men measured

Most of what gets written about shilajit and pine pollen benefits for men traces back to three small sets of numbers.

Pine pollen

In a 2024 pilot study led by Wolkodoff, 10 men aged 47 to 78 took a pine pollen tincture for 8 weeks. Their average total testosterone rose from 362.5 to 448.4 ng/dL. Their qADAM scores, a questionnaire men fill in about drive, energy and mood, went from 23.9 to 31.7. A 2025 pilot in 11 men measured free testosterone going from 10.48 to 11.72 ng/dL, while SHBG (the protein that binds testosterone in the blood) fell.

Shilajit

The best-known shilajit trial is Pandit and colleagues, published in Andrologia (online 2015, print 2016). It was randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled, run at J.B. Roy State Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Seventy-five healthy men aged 45 to 55 took 250 mg of purified shilajit twice a day, or a placebo, for 90 days. Blood was drawn at day 0, 30, 60 and 90. At 90 days, total testosterone in the shilajit group was up about 20% and free testosterone about 19%. DHEAS rose as well.

The 2024 pilot used a pine pollen tincture, the same form Mara makes.

Total testosterone rose from 362.5 to 448.4 ng/dL in 8 weeks.

How men run pine pollen and shilajit together each morning

Most men take both in the first half hour of the day, before or with breakfast. Pine pollen goes first because it takes ten seconds. The shilajit comes next, while the kettle is still warm.

  1. Fill the dropper of Pine Pollen and hold it under your tongue for 20 to 30 seconds, then swallow. If you'd rather, stir it into your coffee, a glass of water or a smoothie.
  2. Take a small piece of shilajit resin (the amount on your jar's label) and drop it into a cup of warm water or tea. Stir until it dissolves. Good resin dissolves in warm water and doesn't float like tar.
  3. Drink it with or after food. Several shilajit users online say it sits easier on the stomach that way.

Some men split the day instead. Pine pollen in the morning coffee, a second dropper before a workout, and shilajit in tea after training. The Pandit trial gave shilajit twice a day, and some men copy that with one cup in the morning and one in the early afternoon. Pine Pollen is taken at 1 to 2 droppers a day.

Start the stack with the bottle you'll use every day

In a pine pollen shilajit stack, pine pollen is the base because it is the part men take without thinking. The 50 ml bottle sits next to the coffee machine or goes in a gym bag. There's no kettle and no sticky jar lid. At 1 to 2 droppers a day, one bottle lasts 30 to 50 days, so a single bottle covers the 8 weeks the 2024 pilot ran.

The tincture form also deals with the pollen wall, which is tough. Mara uses cracked-cell pollen and extracts it, then returns the minerals to the liquid. What you get is a few millilitres that go under the tongue in seconds. The bottle is dark Miron glass, which keeps light off the extract for the life of the bottle. Dark amber glass is a step in the right direction. Miron glass is the gold standard.

Many men start with pine pollen alone for a few weeks, settle into the habit, and then add shilajit as the second step once the morning dropper is automatic.

What men say after a few weeks

The reports men share about pine pollen are consistent. Stronger morning wood is the one that comes up first. More drive is the second. Men in the 2024 pilot filled in the qADAM questionnaire before and after, and their scores climbed by almost 8 points over the 8 weeks.

Shilajit users mostly talk about the routine itself. The taste is the first thing men mention, since the resin is smoky and bitter. Some keep it to training days. Run together, the pine pollen dropper is the easy every-morning part and the shilajit cup is the slower ritual built around it.
